How you can support local businesses during challenging times

Small businesses all over the country are being impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak and need support during this challenging time. If you’re currently employed and have extra money to spare, try spending it at a local business to help their doors stay open in the future.

Purchase a gift certificate

Even if you’re unable to visit a salon or local shop right now, buying a gift card is the perfect way to show you care. Although this may seem like a simple gesture, gift cards will help with cash flow for businesses who are struggling to make rent and keep up with other expenses.

Order takeout

Many restaurants aren’t seating customers, but that doesn’t mean you can’t order takeout for a night in. You can also contribute by purchasing merchandise like tumblers, t-shirts and hats. You might even want to ask your favorite restaurant if they’re selling perishable food items that you’re unable to find at your local grocery store.

Leave a tip

Leaving a good tip is a nice gesture for service workers who depend on tips to make a living. Not to mention, these workers are susceptible to illness due to the nature of the service industry, making any extra cash highly appreciated.

Shop local

Instead of supporting large corporations, show your love for your community by shopping local. Despite shops being closed, many offer websites where you can place an order at any time. This extra revenue allows shop owners to continue to pay staff members who work hard to fulfill orders.
