An investment in an ACEC Utah membership is an investment in yourself. When you’re an ACEC Utah member, it’s easier than ever to connect with fellow professionals and enhance your skillset.
If you’re a member of ACEC Utah, but don’t attend events or make any new connections, it’s time to make a change. We all know that life gets busy, but if you follow these tips, you can leverage your career and discover new opportunities:
1) Attend the Engineering in Excellence Awards
The Engineering in Excellence Awards is a yearly exposition of exceptional engineering achievements. Each year, a large panel of judges look through the submissions and decide who to honor at the annual gala.
This is a great opportunity to get better as an engineer and to learn from your fellow innovators. The exposure is wonderful, but the event also presents an opportunity to get to know other professionals with similar passions and interests.
2) Attend conferences and seminars
Although some conferences are still remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are a lot of in-person events as well. We encourage you to attend all of the conferences and webinars you can in the coming months. You can view a full list of upcoming events by clicking here.
Once you take a look, find an event that interests you. When you do, reserve a spot and make sure to attend. To get the most out of the presentation, bring a list of questions. Afterward, stick around and network. It’s also a good idea to bring some extra business cards.
3) Use your voice
As an ACEC Utah member, you can use your voice to advocate for the engineering industry. Our organization closely follows each legislative session and advocates for policies that expand our reach and influence. If you’re passionate about getting involved in politics, now is the perfect time to join.
4) Ask a mentor out for coffee
Do you have any peers or mentors you look up to? If so, consider asking them out for a meal or a coffee date. When you do, be friendly and approachable and consider picking up the bill. Take this time to ask questions and gain professional insights. You never know who might turn into a lifelong friend.
We hope these tips help you build confidence and start taking control of your ACEC Utah membership. If you ever have questions, be sure to reach out to our team at (801) 657-4470.
