The new year is officially here, and if you haven’t already, it’s time to set your goals to help further your career as an engineer or construction worker.
At ACEC Utah, we have a bunch of fun networking events and conferences coming up in the new year that we encourage you to attend. Not only will you have the opportunity to meet new engineers and develop new skills, but you’ll also potentially set yourself for a job opportunity. Here are three goals you can make for yourself in the new year:
1. Submit a project to the 2022 Engineering in Excellence Awards
The annual Engineering in Excellence Awards are coming up quickly, and the window to submit your project has already opened.
To submit a project to the EEA awards, you must be a member of ACEC through your respective state and log into the submission portal. Before starting the journey toward submission, we suggest reviewing past project winners and feedback from previous submissions.
2. Attend a conference (in-person or virtual)
With the new year upon us, it’s time to start planning which conferences you’d like to attend. Not only will you need to arrange the time off work or school, but you’ll also need to make sure to secure a hotel room ahead of time.
Through ACEC, you have the option of signing up for both the Annual Convention in Washington D.C. and the Fall Conference in Colorado Springs, CO. Click here to view the options and start making plans.
If those conferences are too far away from you or you can’t make it, we recommended attending a membership luncheon right here in Utah! ACEC Utah’s membership luncheons are helping at Little America every month and create a great networking opportunity.
3. Refer a friend for a membership
Although this may not be the most exciting goal on the list, it’s important to refer and friend to ACEC Utah, especially if he or she is interested in breaking into the engineering industry.
What may help in your referral efforts is mentioning that ACEC Utah has a huge voice in lobbying for infrastructure development in the engineering industry. We believe in growing our economy into a more livable and sustainable environment while creating hundreds and thousands of jobs in the workplace.
As the year goes on, don’t be afraid to add and take away from your goals. After all, the best goals grow and adapt with the times but are also measurable, timely and attainable.
