Keeping up with the latest tech in the engineering industry is challenging because the latest news is constantly changing. What you learned at your latest seminar six months ago may not be relevant anymore, which initially can be a discouraging realization. New trends in technology emerge daily, so it’s essential for engineers to develop a strategy to stay up with the latest news cycle. Follow these tips to stay informed:

Invest in an ACEC Utah Membership

Although investing in membership may be pricy at first due to the yearly membership fee, it’s worth it in the long run. Not only are you investing in yourself, but you’re also unlocking a whole new network of individuals to help you learn and progress in your career.

Once you become a member, the first thing you should do is sign up for the monthly networking events and also the yearly convention opportunities that have either travel or virtual options. It’s unlikely you’ll miss any industry updates or technology trends that impact your industry when attending regular conferences.

Commit to reading the news

If you’re in tune with the daily news cycle, the more likely you are to never miss a trend or update. Make it a routine to read the news in the morning before you start your workday to help wake you up and motivate you.

If you’re unable to fit your daily reading session into your morning routine, try sparing a few minutes before you end your workday or head to bed. You’ll never regret staying informed. Plus, you’ll be able to fit some of the regular news cycles in there.

Follow new Twitter accounts

Another great way to stay informed about the latest events is to follow informative social media accounts and check them regularly. Some of the latest trends you should know are first showcased on social media.

If you don’t have a Twitter or LinkedIn account yet, this is a sign to make one ASAP. Once you get your account set up with the right information, like a profile picture and bio, be sure to follow some trending accounts.
