At ACEC Utah, we concentrate our trainings on marketing and general business practices. We find value in our members being well educated in these areas. But what holds a strong business together?
Creativity. If you don’t find a way to stand out from the competition, you will be overlooked. In order to have a successful business, you need to get creative and step outside your comfort zone. Some of the greatest industries in the world started from a single idea.
Risk vs. reward. Before stepping into the unknown, you must analyze whether the risk is worth the reward. The key to success is taking calculated risks that will ultimately bring more reward and wealth. Beware that it’s not as easy as it sounds.
More than profit. Sure, profit is a primary goal of any business, but do not let the quest for profit consume you. The company’s other values, such as providing a product or service people need or giving good jobs to employees, also matter.
Quick decision-making. The world is constantly moving and changing. People change their minds. In order to keep up with the time, companies must be able to make quick and efficient decisions for the greater good. Although decisions may be difficult, they must be made to move forward.
Passion. “Build something you believe in.” That advice comes from Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com. Without the passion for your product or service, your business will lose meaning and solely focus on money. Rookie mistake.
