The engineering industry is constantly changing and scaffolds innovation across the world. Even if a particular corner of the engineering world is not our thing, we can all applaud the role engineers play in moving science, industry — even culture — forward. Check out these five recent and groundbreaking innovations:
World’s Largest Floating Solar Panel
China unveiled the world’s largest floating solar panel last year in an effort to create more eco-friendly technology. The plant was designed and built by Sungrow and is considered the world’s largest floating solar power plant. The power generated from this plant can supply more than 6,500 homes.
Duodenoscope from PENTAX Medical
PENTAX Medical has recently been recognized with two key awards for its innovation. Its DEC™ Duodenoscope is a flexible tube that is meant to be threaded through the mouth, throat and top of the intestines. Duodenoscopes allow doctors access to patients’ upper gastrointestinal systems. PENTAX’s product has a unique disposable design that will improve patient hygiene.
SpaceX Reused Spaceship
SpaceX launched a previously used spaceship in June 2017 for a NASA resupply mission. The rocket launched from the Cape Canaveral Air Force station in Florida, and was the first reused rocket. This company is known for its successful launches and landings and is now known worldwide for its reusable rocket ship.
Tesla Production Cars
Tesla’s Model S P100D broke Motor Trend’s world record for faster acceleration by going 0 to 97 kph in 2.28 seconds. Tesla is now experimenting with self-driving vehicles that are set to release soon. However, the debate continues over the safety of self-driving cars.
