The engineering industry is constantly evolving (especially since the COVID-19 pandemic onset), and the set of key issues to be aware of has expanded in recent years.
As a contributor to the engineering and construction industry, it’s crucial to be aware of the latest legislation and social issues that will impact upcoming and scheduled projects. With a simple change in funding and economics, millions of jobs could be lost, and the goal to improve the accessibility of American communities could be put on the backburner.
Here’s how those actively participating in the engineering industry can advocate for key issues in 2022:
Contact state and local officials
One of the best ways to make your voice heard and advocate for the interests of our community is to contact your state and local officials.
You can ask questions, demand more information or even express your opinion about a recent piece of legislation that has passed or is waiting to be voted on.
To find elected state and local officials in your area, visit usa.gov. When drafting your email or letter, be concise and respectful while also using your community’s personal stories to make your case more relevant.
Become an ACEC Utah member

We focus on key issues around landmark court decisions, A/E tax deductions, expansion of energy markets, expansion of liability protections and more.
When you become a part of ACEC Utah, you automatically feel like you’re part of something bigger. Our Political Action Committee is the largest in the A/E industry and among the top 4% in the country. Click here or call 801-657-4470 for more information about ACEC Utah and how to become a member.
Attend the latest events and conferences
As a part of the ACEC organization, we make an effort to keep our members in the loop about the latest networking events and conferences that greatly increase their knowledge of the industry and open future career opportunities.
At every event, members are briefed with the latest industry news. Every year there is a large networking event in a different city with several highly influential speakers, as well as the Engineering in Excellence Awards, where each member is encouraged to submit their best work.
