Company culture is a huge part of any business, whether it be a start-up or a well-established company. No employee wants to work in a toxic environment where they feel like they’re being put down or don’t have the resources they need to grow and develop as a professional. With a positive company culture, many employees find they enjoy their work more and put in more effort to make the process meaningful. Creating, fostering and encouraging a positive company culture can be as easy as these three steps:
Emphasize employee wellness
Most employees are more productive and feel valued if they believe their mental, physical, and emotional wellness is a priority. To make sure employees are feeling their best, be sure to have on-site resources to help employees achieve their health goals both inside and outside the office. Many employees enjoy the concept of on-site mental health resources, generous PTO and an open door policy with co-workers.
Build trust
Employees have trouble feeling comfortable in their work environment if they feel like they aren’t trusted. To build a trusting relationship you must establish open communication with all employees. When things get tough in the office, does leadership make an effort to address the problem or does the issue get swept under the carpet? Is there a culture of gossip and mistrust? Are people happy with their job or do feel like they are stuck there? These are all questions you should be asking when establishing a positive company culture.
Create goals
Give your employees meaning by creating attainable goals that everyone can work toward throughout the year. There should be something bigger to look forward to aside from a paycheck. When the goal is reached, be sure to take a victory lap and thank all who were involved in reaching the particular goal.
