An emphasis on human resources is important for any engineering company that has employees, no matter how small. The HR department is responsible for hiring, training and monitoring company policies and practices to ensure they comply with myriad state and federal laws. Here’s are some of the tasks of a human resources department:
Monitor company culture. The human resources department does not control company culture, but rather monitors it. A good company culture creates a good and desirable work environment.
Increase functionality. Human resource employees keep company policies up to date and ensure that employees are aware of changing policies. Among other things, such policies are intended to keep the workplace free of harassment, bullying and discrimination.
Awareness. The human resources department is responsible for handling all health benefits and new-hire paperwork and for keeping track of vacation time and sick time. When these processes are handled correctly, it can save the company significant amounts of money.
Recruitment. Human resources employees are responsible for recruiting new employees and providing support to hiring managers. In order to successfully complete recruitment, they must be equipped with interviewing skills, scheduling assistance and selection monitoring.
